A capacitation test is a test in which the sperm cells are placed on a gradient and centrifuged. Only the healthy, mobile sperm cells will easily pass through the gradient.
If the capacitation test does not provide enough sperm cells, it may be assumed that under natural conditions (after intercourse) insufficient sperm cells will also pass through the cervix of the uterus and through the capsule of the egg to be able to fertilise the egg.
If, however, this test provides sufficient sperm cells, this provides valuable information about the fertilising ability of the sperm cells.
